Accelerating through 2022 - A year in review

2022 has been a year to remember. If we only focus on what happened in the fields of technology related to Accelerated Cloud Computing and on the progress we made as a team, there’s no doubt it has been an exciting one.

We have noticed sensible breakthroughs around AI (look here for a recap of the most relevant trends of 2022:), and have really loved what happened around Stable Diffusion, whose breakthrough into an open-source form opened up a new era of possibilities, offering its potential to millions of new users (if you want to try it out yourself, you can do it on Genesis Cloud: Just follow the steps on our most read blog article of 2022!). We look forward to yet another year full of new developments!

On the other hand, everybody could feel the worsening effects of climate change, with many experiencing a heatwave during the summer of 2022. In the UK the situation escalated to the point where the electricity consumption lead to a competition between data center and housing usage (read the news on The Verge). With our green-at-source approach, we want to give everyone the choice to work with ML, AI, VFX Rendering and more at affordable prices, while using only renewable energy.

And, because we love trees, we also planted some close to our HQ in Munich, with the Rack4Roots initiative to help promote a longer and healthier life to the forest.

Coming to our journey as a company, we hit the acceleration tab and expanded our capacity in many directions, doubling our data center capacity with the opening of the Norway Datacenter). The same happened to our team: Check out our open positions here! In October 2022 Genesis Cloud was named among the Top German Startup Employers by Business Punk and Statista, ranking at #6 on top of the section focusing on “Technology (AI, Cloud, BigData)” (2.500 companies considered; criteria included reputation, growth and satisfaction).

We introduced many new product features, such as Billing Alarms (a top request from our community), CPU and Memory Optimized Instance Types for NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 3090 and NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 3080 GPUs, as well as new RTX 3060 Tis to name a few.

We attended a long list of events and had great conversations, from Toronto, where we had a very warm welcome from the Toronto Machine Learning Society and its MLOps World Conference, to London, where at the Re-Work MLOps Summit cloud sustainability advocate, Aerin Booth gave a great talk about if “Is Dall-E ethical? The Real-World Impacts of Machine Learning” (here you can watch the teaser video). At Lisbon (what a great Web Summit this year, again in its full power!) and Tel Aviv, we had the honor of hearing a big shout out to our name from the huge crowd at ECCV when Moses Guttmann, CEO of ClearML, announced our partnership for Green Energy Compute Solution for Machine Learning and MLOps Teams.

Anyway, as we all know, the best is yet to come. We will keep on building an excellent product for you, continue to engage with communities of accelerators’ users (like we have done by launching in November the Munich chapter of the MLOps.Community together with brilliant like-minded people - have a look here at the first episode) and most importantly we will campaign for a more sustainable approach to cloud computing.
